GPDfPR - Data Extraction

General Practice Data for Planning and Research (GPDfPR)

Cowes Medical Centre and all other GP Practices in England, will be required to allow NHS Digital to extract and upload a copy of your full GP record on 1 September 2021, and daily thereafter. NHS Digital will become the data controller for all such uploaded information.

NHS Digital will use the uploaded information for purposes beyond direct medical care, uses such as commissioning, planning, population health management and research.

NHS Digital will primarily use your information in a way that does not identify you (your information will be pseudonymised). However, they will be able to use their software to identify you in certain circumstances, and where there is a valid legal reason to do so. NHS Digital may also share your information with third parties such as Local Authorities, primary care networks (PCNs), clinical commissioning groups (CCGs), research organisations, including universities, and pharmaceutical companies.

We are required to inform our patients of such processing and of their right to opt-out of this extraction, should they wish to. NHS Digital will not collect information from GP practices about patients who have registered a Type 1 Opt-out with their practice. If you have already submitted a Type 1 Opt-out form to us, it remains in force and it will prohibit this extraction. The information collection will start on 1 September 2021, so if you do not want your information to be shared with NHS Digital, please register your Type 1 Opt-out with us by 25 August 2021.  You can download the form from this website: https://digital.nhs.uk/services/summary-care-records-scr/scr-patient-consent-preference-form
